Enhanced Awareness Training for 40 Volunteers

Ubique Partnership Trainers have provided Veterans Champions Training to 134 staff from across CJS Agencies and other organisations supporting veterans.  Achieved a 78% approval rating as Excellent with 20% attending rating the training as Good.

An initial Enhanced Training course (Veterans Champions Training) now developed with the format revised following on-going delivery to CJS Partnership Staff and Volunteers/Peer Support Workers since November 2016. The training included veterans/service users in person and video case studies.

This enhanced (Champions) training is designed for those who have put themselves forward as a Champion within their individual teams/organisations, linking with the project, with other Veterans Champions across the CJS network, and with their local Armed Forces Community Covenant Partnerships. The Champions network are now receiving Refresher Training and are actively involved in development of the CJS Veterans Champions Network.

Veterans CJS Champions Training includes:

  • Knowledge around the Criminal Justice agencies (Police, Courts, National Probation Service, Community Rehabilitation Companies, Prisons), what they do, how they influence veterans’ rehabilitation/community integration.
  • Knowledge of veteran’s specific support, military charities, community Veteran Champion networks.
  • Understanding the needs of veterans and the barriers they face within the CJS; Police, Prison and on Probation.
  • The format of Champion Training programme is tailored to meet the different needs of organisations attending the session with the content and emphasis adjusted according to the knowledge and experience of the participants.  A veteran who can provide a service user perspective supports training for each event.

Our Enhanced Awareness Training is complemented/enhanced by the provision of Mental Health First Aid for The Armed Forces. This training/awareness delivered through a one-day, and two day awareness training was provided by Forces in the Community a military charity based in Nottingham, and through a Trainer from 30 Signals Regiment based in Nuneaton.
