Providing help and support to former members of the UK Armed Forces (Veterans) across the Warwickshire & West Mercia Area.

Criminal Justice Veterans Champion

As a Criminal Justice Veterans’ champion, which is normally a voluntary role, and in addition to your other organisational responsibilities. You will receive enhanced awareness, normally three hours’ duration, which would follow Remember Veterans CJS Project awareness session delivered during a staff team meeting. This enhanced awareness training will involve colleagues from across other Criminal Justice Partners, which will include Police Officers/Staff, Prison Officers and Probation Staff.

As your organisations, Veterans Champion you would work to develop links with local Armed Forces Community Covenant Champions, the developing CJS Veterans Champions network,  other Veterans Services and the various Military Charities operating in your area to help raise awareness of the needs and issues faced by veterans who are offenders.

"Terminology used by veterans/military, services available to help, impact on families, gaps in provision, excellent use of videos"

Veterans CJS Champion Training will include:

  • Knowledge around the Criminal Justice agencies (Police, Courts, the National Probation Service, Warwickshire & West Mercia Community Rehabilitation Company, Prisons), what they do, how they affect veterans’ rehabilitation/community integration.
  • Knowledge of veteran’s specific support, military charities, community Veteran Champion networks.
  • Understanding the needs of veterans and the barriers they face.

"All of it helped increase my knowledge and understanding and networks available for support"

The Training content aims to meet the different needs of each organisation with the content and emphasis adjusted per the knowledge and experience of the participants. A veteran who can provide a service user perspective will also support the training.
